Lessons and Test
AS OF 30th OCTOBER 2025
I SHALL NO LONGER BE
AVAILABLE FOR DRIVING TUITION
Depending on how much experience the pupil has had depends on how much tuition they require, but for a complete novice the following lesson plans would be included:
- How To Sit Comfortably and Be Able To Operate The Controls Safely
- Learn What The Controls Do
- Move Off Safely On The Level, Uphill & Downhill
- How To Turn Left, Right, Deal With Crossroads & Roundabouts
- Understanding Pedestrian Crossings
- Anticipating The Actions Of Other Road Users
- The Turn In The Road
- Reversing Around A Corner
- Parking The Car Behind Another Car And In A Bay
- The Emergency Stop
- Motorway Driving
Once the pupil has reached the required standard they will take their practical driving test (assuming they have already passed their theory test).
The driving test is a 38-40 minute drive taking in as many different road types as possible (town centre, rural roads, dual carriageway & country lanes) with various speed limits. It also includes 1 reverse manoeuvre and a period of around 20 minutes of independent driving either following a sat nav (4 out 5 tests) or following direction signs. 1 in 3 candidates are asked to do the emergency stop. As long as the candidate commits less than 16 driver faults and no serious or dangerous faults they will pass their test. At the end of the test the examiner will explain the faults committed.

Please note that to book both the theory & practical tests it is best to go directly to www.direct.gov and follow the links to motoring. (It is easiest to go via my links page). There are companies who are charging up to £20 extra to book tests.
